It's been several years since the Spirit of South Carolina has been anywhere outside her own harbor other than the shipyard, and several more since she has been to Georgetown. That is about to change.

Crew and new volunteer recruitment began before we were back from the Steven's Towing. And since then we have been going through semi-regular training days, getting newcomers familiar, and returning members reacquainted. The sailors all seem to appreciate the workout as does her rigging, which thanks to our shipyard and dockside teams are mostly renewed, from top to bottom.

On October 15th, Spirit will muster her freshly trained corps and chart a course for the 37th annual Wooden Boat Show, in partnership with the South Carolina Maritime Museum. While there she plans to be the star of the show, at least by way of gross tonnage, far and away the largest vessel in port. Spirits itinerary puts here on the Harbor Walk starting on the 15th and departing on the 19th.

Beginning the morning of the 16th, show-goers will have the opportunity to tour her decks, be regaled with stories from the high and low seas, learn the history of our ship and her place in the maritime community. Deck tours will run from 1100 to 1800 on Saturday and 1100 to 1600 on Sunday. Just $5 let's you abaord and proceeds from all Spirit activites benefit the South Carolina Maritime Museum.

Crew spots are currently open for the voyages up and returning. Keep your eyes peeled for sign-ups to sail Spirit by checking you inbox and our events section regularly.
